For your consideration is a used 4-light grill to fit the Rabbit Convertible and Cabriolet. It will fit the following vehicles:
1980-1993 Rabbit Convertible and Cabriolet
This grill is a direct fit for 1989-1993 Cabriolet with the Clipper kit (wheel arch, rockers and bumpers in plastic). For all earlier Rabbit Convertible (1979-1987), you may need to make modifications to make this grill work on your car. But it has been done before.
This grill was pulled from a 1990 Cabriolet and it’s in very good shape. Most of the tabs are intact. One of the lower corner clasps had broken off, and I completed a solid repair with a plastic welder. It’s not the prettiest, but it works (I tested it against my 1989 Cabriolet).All of the other lower tabs are original and intact.
The upper corner screw sockets are fine, but it looks like someone couldn’t figure out the two center tabs, and hacked them clean off. There are two screws that hold the center of the grill anyways, so it should not affect mounting in any ways.
The bulbs are chip/crack free, and come with some of the pigtail harnesses. The plugs have been cut off, but you can reuse your old ones. If you’re retrofitting this grill to an earlier car, you would likely need to cut the connectors off anyways.
Most of these I see for sale have had the emblems “restored”, which usually means poorly masked and spray painted silver. This one is original with a clean chrome finish on it.
These are getting harder and harder to find in good shape. I purposely refrained from slathering this in some plastic shine, so that you could see the texture and lack of fade. I’d rate this one about 9 out of 10 for used parts, with only the chipped headlight holding it back.
