I recently acquired an awesome period built 1960 283 SBC engine and Borg Warner T-10 transmission from the estate of a long time hot rodder. He had owned this engine since the early 60's and built it back in the day to install in his early Ford hot rod. The engine was likely built in the mid 60's and had been properly stored even since. All ports and openings were carefully taped shut so the engine was completely sealed. The engine and trans never made it into the Ford and I purchased the parts from the estate. Since the engine had later 461X heads on it and I had to open it up for inspection to confirm the condition, I decided to break the parts up into individual components so buyers could get just the parts they needed. The engine was loaded with trick parts from the early to mid 60's including 3782461 X camel back heads, 1962-1963 OEM GM 409 Carter carbs, Corvette trap door oil pan, Edelbrock dual quad intake, GM dual point distributor, Stellings breathers, and more. The last 2 pictures show the complete engine as it came to me. Over the next week, I plan to list the other parts from this engine/transmission combo. Keep an eye on my other listings for the other parts.

This listing is for the following item:

This is an awesome pair of 3782461 X cylinder heads. These came off of the hot rod 283 engine described above. These are known as the 461 "X" heads do to the "X" cast on the underside of the cooling port on each head as shown. The 461 X heads were used on 1961-1963 high performance 327 engines and are well known for being the heads perferred by hot rodders and racers of the 60's and are still iconic speed parts to this day. The heads have casting dates of G 10 2 and G 11 2 which decode as July 10 and 11th, 1962. This is a true date matched pair. Don't miss these awesome factory high performance heads.

These heads are in awesome condition as shown. These heads were built for the 283 engine mentioned above. The heads are complete with rockers and have only cam break in time on them. The engine was freshly built, had the cam broken in, then all rockers were loosened to take pressure off the valve train and the engine was sealed and stored until I disassembled it. Based on the era of the other parts on this engine, I imagine these heads were bought new from GM for this engine. The engine had many NOS GM parts from the early 60's installed including a Duntov solid camshaft/lifters, GM hardened tip pushrods, NOS GM valve covers, and much more. I can't say for sure these heads were NOS but they look it. I see no breaks or repairs to these heads. The engine had a GM 3736098 solid lifter cam installed so I imagine the springs are matched to that cam. The valves are original GM units. A magnet sticks to the intake valve and no the exhaust so I believe the exhaust valves are stainless. The intake and exhaust ports have had some nice port work done and the heads appear to have been milled for higher compression. The combustion chambers have some smoothing as shown. I pulled 2 valves and was excited to see the valve stem seals are still soft and the guides seem nice and tight as they should be. I personally would install these heads just as they are. That said, to be on the safe side, I recommend disassembling them, lapping the valves, and replacing the valve stem seals before installation. This is is an awesome pair of 461X with some cool vintage speed work done.

This is your chance to own the vintage 461X cylinder heads you have been dreaming about at a GREAT PRICE. Don't Miss Out!
