Up for sale are modified new and used thermostats. They are. Cut in half, gutted, cleaned, modified to accept a Hemi thermostat then pressure tested prior to shipping.

One of the advantages of this is: if the thermostat were to ever fail, you simply remove two nuts, separate the top half of the housing and replace the defective thermostat with a new one that costs $14 at any auto parts store. Easy peasy!

We also use the high quality Gates 34053 thermostat which is a 203F thermostat.

Fuel burns more efficiently in a hot environment, especially diesel which has a flash point of 200F degrees. A cold engine creates coking (soot) similar to a wood stoves stove pipe. This soot is basically fuel that wasn't burned completely and collects on engine components such as the intake/intake valves (if you have a working EGR), pistons, valves, glow plugs and injector tips reducing their efficiency. Ever wonder why glow plugs and injectors are hard to remove?   It's the carbon buildup.   When it builds up on glow plugs they don't work as well or burn out because they can't dissipate heat. When it builds up on injector tips it can reduce atomization and spray pattern of fuel delivery.   When it builds up on valve stems it adds mass which can weaken them and cause them to break.    Aluminum heads dissipate heat quickly which makes this worse especially for diesels because of diesels inherently high flash point.   Raising the temperature of the head at or above the flash point temperature of diesel helps reduce this.

A higher operating temperature will also allow your heater to function more efficiently in sub-zero temperatures.

Finally, because the hemi thermostat is designed for a much larger, hotter running engine, it will flow better under heavy duty operation.
