Another rare, obsolete Lunch Pail goody !

For over 50 years, pre-approved 3rd-party vendors offered lot signage to Ford's US dealer network. Period catalogs show a hundreds of designs, from simple to fancy in many shapes & sizes.

But by the early '60s, Dearborn had second thoughts. In many cases, the famous Ford logo was hard to see amidst the spectacle of huge, colorful lettering and/or flashing neon lights.

It was decided that a new 'standard' type was needed. Dealers were free to keep their old signage, but they would have to buy a new one, too, and it had to be erected right out front.

Today, Harvard Business School might call this a branding policy to foster and leverage customer loyalty. Back then, they considered it just good business. Simpler times, you know?

You're looking at a sample of the new 'standard' signage which was mandatory, beginning in 1967. Promos like this were sent to all US dealerships, along with official notice of the new rule.
